How is bio-activity measured?

Frozen nectar samples are sent to a laboratory, such as the facility at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and tested to determine their respective bio-activity levels and other parameters.

One parameter is the level of dihydroxyacetone (DHA) measured in ppm, found in the nectar samples. This is the precursor for the bioactive component found in the honey methylglyoxal (MGO)  ppm.
